102 – The Phi Nu Room
The Phi Nu Room is located on the 1st floor adjacent right off the foyer. It has had many uses over the years including a card room in the 70s and 80s, and a “brother room” in the mid 2000s. Since at least 2006 it has been a bedroom, I believe.
While it’s not clear when the room was first referred to as the Phi Nu Room, or why. The name has to do with the Phi Nus – the Phi Nu Dartmouth Chapter of the national fraternity Alpha Chi Rho – which combined their treasury with Gamma Delta Epsilon to form Gamma Delta Chi. Alpha Chi Rho used to exist where the present “Church of Christ” sits (the giant white church next to SAE). The Phi Nus sold the land to the Church of Christ and combined it with the treasury of Gamma Delta Epsilon to build the present house.
